I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” - KJV 2 Timothy 4:6-7
Madisen “Madi” Minter was born on November 27, 1996, at 2:56 p.m., at Women’s Hospital in Houston, Texas, to Thomas C. Minter, Jr., and Zella Butler Minter. She was baptized at Greenspoint Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Victor Williams. Later she united with Bering Memorial United Church of Christ where she became a member in 2022. She married Dianna Fernandez at Bering on February 4, 2024.
Madi began her formal education in the Pasadena Independent School District. She graduated from J. Frank Dobie High School in May 2015 in the top 5% of her class and was awarded the Vanguard Award for volunteerism. She was FIRST Robotics Team Ambassador for Corporate Sponsors, Debate Team Assistant Secretary, Math Club Secretary, National Honor Society member, and a member of the Powerlifting Team. After high school, she attended Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. During her time at MTSU she was a paid Supplemental Instruction Leader, a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Phi Sigma Pi initiate Class President, Scholarship Committee Chair, Smith Dorm Area Government Secretary, True Blue Scholarship recipient, and on the Dean’s List each semester. Her caring nature and personality stood out with high school and university administrators, and she was always surrounded by her friends and family. In August 2018, she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Audio Production. Following graduation, Madi attended the Bridge Program at Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College in November – December 2018. In 2023, she began working toward a Master of Business Administration degree at Sam Houston University in Huntsville, Texas.
Madi began her career with K-Force as a consultant at Hilcorp Energy Company in February 2019. In November 2020, she became an employee of Hilcorp as an Auditor II. She started her last Hilcorp assignment on January 15, 2024, as a Non-Operated Joint Interest Billing Accountant.
In April 2019, Madi was initiated into the Houston Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Madi was number 11 of the “60 in 3D” line and her name was “Einstein.” As a member of HMAC, she served on the International Awareness & Involvement Committee, Political Awareness & Involvement (Social Action) Committee, and supported other chapter activities.
In September 2021, Madi joined the Montrose Softball League and quickly became involved, playing on Houston Hot Shots and Houston Lip Gloss where she met many of her friends, including Dianna. She also started playing Pickleball in August 2023, where she excelled. She was an avid supporter of women’s sports and became a season ticket holder for the Houston Dash in June 2022. Madi also (reluctantly) joined Dianna as a season ticket holder for the University of Houston football team in 2023.
Madi loved music and had a wide range of musical interests. She also loved exploring local breweries and wineries to discover and sample the goods. She was fascinated by their ingenuity and constantly wanted to meet with the owners to understand their history and origins. She would always get a sticker to put on her cooler or computer or refrigerator.
Madi enjoyed life to the fullest and had a passion for traveling and experiencing new things. In recent years, she traveled with Zella to Amsterdam, Greece, and Paris. She and Dianna went to Vancouver, where they were engaged, followed by trips to Atlanta, Las Vegas, and a camping trip in Navasota. And, the most memorable of all (at least according to Dianna), honeymooning in Copenhagen. Her list of future travel destinations was extensive.
Madi had a passion for giving and supporting charitable organizations, as well. She gave generously to Montrose Softball League—so much so that, without her donations, Houston Lip Gloss would not have come to be. She gave to many LGBTQ+ organizations, focusing on programs for women’s issues, as well as youth and education. She also recently sent her remaining charitable savings to Arts Connect Houston for a program at HISD.
Madi was a gifted leader and effective communicator—always willing to be there for those who needed her help. She was a beautiful and confident young woman of faith committed to those she loved. She devoted herself to public service her entire life through leadership, commitment, and enthusiasm. Madi had a unique ability to communicate and relate to the issues that affect the people she served. She had the greatest ability to empathize with what is going on in the lives of others and earn their trust.
Madi was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clarence and Elvenar Lee Butler and Eugene Nunn. She leaves to cherish her memory her wife, Dianna Minter; her mother, Zella Butler Minter; her father, Thomas C. Minter, Jr.; 3 sisters, Lillian Katherine Tolbert, Ashley and Chelsea Minter, and a brother, Thomas P. Minter (Angelica); Grandmother, Gloretha Nunn; her Godmother, Mildred Square Carrethers; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, a nephew, cousins, friends, sorority sisters, co-workers and all those who have felt the impact of her presence on earth.
An omega omega service for Madisen will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM at Bering Memorial United Church of Christ, 1440 Harold St., Houston, TX, followed by a celebration of life from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
