Margarito was born in the provincial town of Terminal, Zacatecas, Mexico. He was an avid baseball player in his small town and always had stories to tell about those memorable days of his youth, and traveling baseball team. He pursued his post-secondary studies at the University of Coahuila in Saltillo, Coahuila majoring in Biological Sciences; and later relocated to Monterrey, Nuevo Leon in 1969 where he met his wife Blanca Nieves Resendez Amaro in 1972, whom he later married in July 1974. Together they had four children: Blanca, Jose, Merced and Sonia. Additionally, before their children were born Margarito welcomed an 11 year old nephew to the family, whom he loved as his own: Martin. Margarito loved taking his family on fun trips within Mexico, which always included an archaeological site, historical site, museums and the beach. He absolutely enjoyed the quaint Mexican seaside, long before these resorts became world renowned. The family emigrated to Houston, Texas in 1984 and began a new life journey chasing the American Dream. The journey was long, arduous, challenging and rewarding. Despite many set-backs and difficulties, he never lost focus of his main goal: keeping the family unit together, following and serving God throughout and above anything else. He was extremely proud of his children progressing through education. He often assisted some of them in their challenging geometry, pre-calculus or physics projects; he had such fun explaining what he knew when it came to 'fun math'. He was excited to watch them all graduate from high school, go into college. He was especially proud of both sons who served in the U.S. Army proudly, domestically & abroad. Never losing his Mexican roots, traditions and love for his own country, he loved America and was an avid student of the US Constitution and Bill of Rights. He often enjoyed discussing the freedoms, liberties, and countless opportunities this great country offered to him, his family and all who were willing to work for these. In 1987 the family became members of La Hermosa Christian Church, in South Houston, Texas, where they served faithfully. Margarito held many jobs in various ministries throughout his 34 years of service within La Hermosa Christian Church and Iglesia Fuente de Agua Viva in Pasadena, Texas. He reached many people with his kindness, friendship, understanding, sense of humor, counsel, teachings, songs, and legendary poetry; but most of all, his faith in Jesus Christ. If there's an interest he was keen on, it was his passion toward literature, world history and theology. His favorite evening routine after work usually consisted of quiet nights relaxing while reading or memorizing inspirational and lengthy poems. The spread of books, concordances, dictionaries, maps and related materials around his library space was iconic, as he enjoyed diving into deep studies of the Bible, apologetics, and much more. Another fun activity for Margarito was grilling and cooking for the family. He was an exceptional grill master, and could whip up the most delicious fresh flour tortillas this side of Mexico. He required his food to have good flavor and 911 level of spice, sometimes too much spice for the average person to enjoy. Margarito was an avid fan of Futbol Mexicano; his wife would gladly confess that his enthusiasm was "extreme". However, he never missed the chance to gleefully cheer for his favorite hometown Houston teams like the Astros, Rockets and Texans. He truly enjoyed watching his favorite teams play every chance he had the opportunity to do so.
Margarito leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Blanca Nieves Resendez de Lara, his children and spouses: Martin & Marta Resendez, Blanca & Richard Rocha, Jose & Alisha Lara, Merced & Blanca Lara, Sonia & Daniel Morin; as well as his grand-children: Andres Rocha, Jasmine Lara, Benjamin Rocha, Annalee Morin, Valentina Lara, Aayla Lara, Carolina Lara, Amelia Morin and Allana Morin, plus Martin, Edgar, Jonathan & Ingrid. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Additionally, he leaves behind his beloved siblings: Andrea, Cleoilde, Pedro, Alicia, Santiago, Silvia, Teresa, Rosario, Julia, Alejandro y Guadalupe. He is preceded by his parents Guadalupe Lara Rodriguez & Natividad Hernandez Tapia, his oldest brother Abdon and his sisters Petra & Ana. It's impossible to name them all at once, the list of nieces and nephews exceeds 90, and they all joyfully referred to him as "Tio".
His immediate family is at peace, knowing full well he is now at in the arms of your Saviour enjoying himself greatly in a place with no more tears, no more pain, no at peace,, enjoying the presence of His Creator and awaiting his loved ones.
He lived an exemplary life and worked like a champion. He taught his children courage, respect, ethics, perseverance, and gave unconditional love; but above all you taught them to always have unfailing faith in God above anything else.
