Marguerite Branch

On August 19, 1925, in Houston, Texas, a beautiful baby girl, Marguerite Branch was born to Jesse and Georgia Rose Phelps, who preceded her in death. After the death of her mother, Marguerite along with her brothers and sisters, began to live with Mr. and Mrs. Dave Malone. There she stayed until her adult life.

She attended Gregory Elementary School and Booker T. Washington High School in Houston, Texas.

She met and married, O’Neal Branch and from their union, they had a beautiful baby girl, Mildred Branch.

She confessed Christ at an early age at B. B. Tabernacle A.M.E Church. Later, she joined Porter Metropolitan C.M.E. Church on Holman Street and was a faithful choir member. After relocating in a different section of the city, she moved her membership to Blue Ridge Baptist Church in 1964. She was a member of the Dorcas Circle, a faithful tither, and an active member, until the Lord called her home.

Marguerite began her working career as a waitress at “Wones-A-Meal” restaurant, in Fourth Ward. She started a new career working at Admiral Linen, as a Stockroom Employee and retired with 39 years of service. She received a Proclamation from the City of Houston, honoring her 97th birthday, and they proclaimed August 19th as Marguerite Branch day.

Marguerite Branch departed this life on Monday, December 30, 2024 at her home with loved ones by her side.

Preceded her in death were three sisters and two brothers. Marguerite leaves to cherish her memories, a daughter Mildred Byrd; her grandchildren, Tina Kennedy and Andre Byrd (Stacie); great-grandchildren, Lauryn, Joseph and John Jr; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation for Marguerite will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Blueridge Baptist Church, 9621 Chesterfield Dr, Houston, TX 77051. The funeral will immediately follow from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. The committal will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Paradise Cemetery South, 16001 Cullen Blvd, Pearland, TX 77581.
