She was born in Houston, Texas on September 12, 1936, to parents Geronimo Rodriguez and Rosa Marie (Luna) Rodriguez.
Maria was generous, kind, and witty. She met her beloved husband, Daniel G. Lara, Jr., in Houston, Texas and the two were united in marriage on June 12, 1955. To this union five children were born. Maria devoted her life to caring for her family.
Maria was the grandmother of many grandchildren. Maria was a beloved sister and Tia. Maria cherished each moment she shared with the people she loved dearly.
One of her many passions included collecting angel figurines and in her spare time Maria enjoyed gardening. Maria also had a passion for cooking and her specialty was tortillas.
She is preceded in death by her late husband, Daniel G. Lara, Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her surviving children, Maria Sanchez, Daniel Lara III, Diane Castillo and husband Enrique Castillo, Monica Lara, Marcus Lara and wife Belinda Lara as well as a host of other cherished family and friends.
A visitation for Maria will be held Friday, January 31, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A funeral service is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 10:30 AM, in Brookside's Grand Chapel. Burial will take place in Brookside Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers are Oscar Dorado, Nathaniel Dorado, Aaron Lara, Enrique Castillo, Joshua Velasquez and Isaiah Velazquez.
