Maria Lira Pizarras, lovingly known as "Mom Babie," passed away peacefully at her home on April 13, 2025, just three days after celebrating her 86th birthday. Born on April 10, 1939 in Cebu City, Philippines, Mom Babie lived a life defined by generosity, love, and deep faith.
She was the beloved daughter of Rafael Tabotabo and Paulita Lumbab and the devoted sister to Maria Lilia, Jose Lucero, Maria Luta, Maria Leilani, Lukemarie, Maria Lydwina, and the late Sister Julie Marie of the Assumption, Maria Lucita, Leartes, and Louis Martin.
Mom Babie was the cherished wife of Maximo Pizarras, with whom she shared over 60 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they raised three sons: Jojo, Joel, and Jester. Her sons were her pride and joy, and she was a constant source of love, guidance, and support in their lives.
Mom Babie attended the University of San Carlos and Velez School of Nursing, earning a degree before embarking on a remarkable career in healthcare. She served as a supervisor at Diagnostic Center Hospital in Houston, Texas, where she worked for many years before retiring from Methodist Hospital. Mom Babie’s compassionate nature extended beyond her profession; she was a guiding light for newly arrived Filipinos in Houston, helping them establish their lives in the United States.
A devout parishioner of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church since the 1960s, Mom Babie’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was known for her impeccable style, quick wit, and generous spirit, often hosting gatherings filled with laughter and love.
Mom Babie is survived by her loving husband, her three sons, and her grandchildren, Alex, Devon, Tori, Rafael, Max and Breana. She now joins her siblings Sister Julie Marie, Maria Lucita, Leartes, and Louis Martin in eternal peace.
A viewing will be held at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Houston on April 22 at 5 PM, followed by a memorial service on April 23 at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in her memory. 6800 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX 77025 - Phone (713) 667-9111
