Maria Vann

Maria Vann passed away at home on October 28, 2017 in Missouri City, Texas, at the age of 83. She was born June 2, 1934 in Munich, Germany to Josef Scherer and Viktoria Endres Scherer. She is survived by her sister Rosa Huber and brother-in-law Gunther, sister Luise Gasche, daughter Dolores Jackson and son-in-law Pete, daughter Marina Hodges and son-in-law Dalton, son Anthony Smircic and daughter-in-law Kelly, grandsons Stephen Hale(Destiny), Michael and Matthew Hodges, Adam and Benjamin Jackson, great-grandchildren Jaxton and Peyton Hale. Maria’s family would also like to honor her dear friends, Isabel Astorga and Verena Hug, for their love and support during her final illness.

Maria was fiercely independent and lived life to the fullest, preferably with a dog or two at her side. She loved to travel and went home to visit her German family often. She spoke four languages and played the piano. She loved the opera and the ballet, took dance classes later in life at the Houston Ballet Studio, and performed for several years as the Grandmother in The Nutcracker for the Ballet Center of Houston.

Maria wished to be cremated, and a memorial mass will be held at 1:00 pm, on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Rd. Houston, Texas 77056.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Houston SPCA or Dachshund Rescue of Houston.
