Marie Vance Milam

Marie Vance Milam passed away Saturday, the 31st of January 2026, at her home in Hull, Texas. She was 91 years of age. Born on the 18th of March 1934, in Palestine, Texas, to Vina Mabel Norman and James Edward Vance, Marie was the youngest of six children, and the only girl!

Marie, known to all as ReRe, loved sweets, antiques and shopping for beautiful things. She was known to buy things she loved, even if there was no specific spot for them, and store them under her bed or hidden away in a closet somewhere. ReRe was a great cook, and loved to host family and friends at her ranch in Liberty, Texas. A member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), Marie loved to research genealogy and pass that knowledge onto others. She was a ‘go with the flow’ type of person, never raising her voice or being angry with anyone. Known for her kindness, patience and gentle spirit, she lived her life with integrity and a deep Christian faith.

Marie is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, David Kelton Milam, Sr.; five brothers – Cecil, Williard, Omie, Loyd and Frank Vance; nephews – Larry Vance, Sr. and Frankie Vance; niece – Maryann Jackson.

She is survived by Deborah Scraper and husband, Roan; David Milam, Jr.; Sherry Clepper and husband, Julian; and Anthony Milam and wife, Stephanie.

Grandchildren: Shawna Berger; Erica Ramirez and husband, Arthur; Marcus Scraper and wife, Kaitlyn; David Milam, III and wife, Jessica; Melissa Mooring and husband, Charles; Faith Milam; Jason Reagan; Michelle Abke, and husband, Josh; Richard Rucker and wife, Mikaley; Ashley Remedios and husband, Barrett; Megan and Hunter Milam.

Great Grandchildren: Ryan and Taylor Riley; Jake Vest; Brandt Berger; Arthur, Andreas, Alexander, Elliana, Emma and Antonio Ramirez; Ayden, Jillian and Ella Mooring; Bailey Garner; Lexie Smith; Layla Milam and David Milam, IV; Zachary Kutach; Brooks, Beau and Harper Remedios; Reese and Reagan Rucker; Everett and Emmett Scraper.

Great-Great Grandchildren: Madelyn Maughan; Kelton Riley; Carter Smith; Corra Garner.

She also leaves behind to cherish her memory several nieces and nephews: Larry Vance, Jr. and Kristi Allen; Gloria Griffin and her daughters, Tamara Herod and Terra Crissman; Shirley Sherrouse and her sons Marcus and Garrett Sherrouse; Vincent Vance and children, Michelle and Joshua Vance; Edward Vance and children Victoria Moake and Wilbert Vance; Paul Jackson; Helen Hoffman; Shannon Vance.

ReRe lived with her granddaughter, Shawna, for the past several years, who was her caretaker, confidante and best friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is now reunited in Heaven with her soul mate, David.

A funeral service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 11th of February, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, with Rev. Anthony Hines, Pastor of Hardin Baptist Church officiating.

Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.

Interment will follow the reception, via an escorted cortege, at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
