Marilyn was born on the 21st of February 1937, in Kansas City, Missouri. Her father’s position with Sheffield Steel brought the family to Houston in 1941 where Marilyn spent her childhood years. She graduated from Lamar High School in 1954 and from The University of Texas in 1958 with a degree in Mathematics. A week later, she married her college sweetheart at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church where they have remained active members for more than 56 years.
As newlyweds, they moved to Oklahoma City, where over the next 6 years they welcomed their two sons; and in 1964 they moved to Dallas where their daughter was born. Houston became their permanent home in 1968. Wife and mother were Marilyn’s preferred lifetime roles; however, over the years she taught high school math and sold residential real estate. She began working with her husband in 1978 and worked as a Certified Financial Planner and financial advisor until she retired in 1998.
She and her husband traveled the world together visiting every continent with the exception of South America and Antarctica. They traveled with several of their dear friends, many times with the Flying Longhorns. She and Dean spent over 20 wonderful years with their tennis group and their Covenant Group. In retirement, Marilyn was active with the Women’s Auxiliary Galveston (WAGS) and UTMB President’s Cabinet in Galveston and the Delta Gamma bridge group and Brown Thumb Garden Club in Houston. And while she enjoyed all of the above, her greatest treasure was her family. What joy she felt for her husband, her children and her grandchildren. God has received an angel and we have lost a wonderful relative and friend.
