

Born and raised in Baytown, she was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, class of 1959 prior to attending Baylor University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree 1963. She earned her Master’s degree in Counseling and Education from University of North Texas in 1966.
Marilyn was a senior English teacher for 31 years at Spring Woods High School in Houston. She was a devoted teacher and loved her career as much as she cherished her students. Prior to Spring Woods High School, Marilyn was a teacher at Meacham Junior High in Fort Worth.
She was a member of South Main Baptist Church in Houston where she was active in the Prime Timer Sunday School class and taught in the SMILE program. For many years Marilyn proudly served in the Sanctuary and Bell Choir.
Marilyn was a member of Alpha Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and Spring Woods SWELLS dinner group.
Marilyn was a great lover of animals and adopted many homeless pets. She enjoyed English literature, reading and traveling. England was her favorite destination where she spent many summers with dear friends. Marilyn loved her friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Alma Stout and her brother, L.W. Stout, Jr., Marilyn is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Gayle Stout; nieces and nephews, Taylor and Leda Stout of Katy, Courtney and Troy Simon of College Station, Cathy and Jesse Brown of Houston, and Richard and Beth Kelpen of New Hampton, Connecticut; great nieces and nephews, Nicholas and Payton Stout, Joshua, Elizabeth and Rachael Simon, Lexie and Trip Brown, Elizabeth and Victoria Kelpen; as well as many cousins and friends, and her beloved dog Rembrandt.
The family would like to thank Margaret Rankin, Maria Melendez, Chris Vique, Deltha Dunn, Sophia Clark, Shirley Williams, Robbie Harris, Gladis Vasquez and Rod Small for their care and help.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six until eight o’clock in the evening on Thursday, the 9th of October, in the parlor and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 10th of October, at South Main Baptist Church, 4100 Main Street in Houston, where Rev. Greg Funderburk, Minister to Adults/Pastoral Care, is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the nearby fellowship hall.
Prior to the service the family will have gathered for a private interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Marilyn ‘s name be directed to Citizens For Animal Protection, 17555 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX, 77094; or to South Main Baptist Church, 4100 Main St., Houston, TX, 77002.
