Marilyn G. Williams, known as "Papoo" to her 5 grandchildren, passed away peacefully on the 26th of August, 2015 at the age of 90. She was born in Beaver City, Nebraska on February 13, 1925 to Ralph and Ethel Green. She earned a B.S. degree in Home Economics from the University of Nebraska, followed by a degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Pennsylvania. Her membership in the Chi Omega sorority was an important part of her college life. As an occupational therapist, she worked with autistic children and the elderly, helping them to live more fulfilling lives.
Marilyn met and married David Williams in Nebraska in 1955. They moved to Houston, TX where she lived until his death in 1999. She moved to Plano, TX in 2000 to be near her daughter's family. Marilyn was proud of her Nebraskan heritage. On Saturdays, one could hear her rooting for Husker football. She enjoyed sharing childhood stories of her time in Nebraska, as well as her travel throughout all 50 states. She loved high teas and owned and operated the Ginger Nook Tea Room in Spring Branch, TX. She was an active member in P.E.O.(Philanthropic Educational Organization) for over 70 years and DAR (Daughters of the American Republic) for over 25 years. She was a wonderful mother, and she was recognized as Mother of the Year on Mother's Day at Woodhaven Baptist Church in Houston. Most important to her was her family, friends and her Christian faith.
We rejoice that she is with her husband, sister and parents with Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior. Marilyn leaves behind her son, Dennis Timothy Williams, Sara Jane Gray and their children Tyler, Brent and Mollie Williams; her daughter Melissa Williams Parrott and husband Wayne Parrott and their children Christy Parrott Westfall, her husband Dan Westfall and Kyle Parrott and her favorite dog Zirk who loved her.
The family will greet friends 6:00-8:00 PM, Sunday, August 30th at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079. A celebration of Marilyn's life will be held 10AM on Monday, August 31 at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marilyn's honor to Christ United Methodist Church Care Center at 3101 Coit Road, Plano, TX 75075.
