September 24, 1960 – July 6, 2025
Mark Anthony Dempsey, 64, of Pasadena, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 24, 1960, in Pasadena, Mark proudly served his country for 14 years in the United States Navy, rising to the rank of E7. Throughout his military career, he was honored with several commendations including the National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. His service reflected his deep commitment to his country and unwavering sense of duty. He continued his government career with the postal service until 2016 when he became eligible to retire early at only 56. He wanted to enjoy life to the fullest.
Mark was a devoted husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, son, and brother. He is survived by his beloved wife and soulmate, Sheri Dempsey.
Mark’s loving daughters include Andrea Hansen and her husband Royce (sons Bradley and Decker), Amanda Garza and her husband Marco (son Julian), and Amy Heer and her husband Chad (children Jacob, Kaitlyn, and Luke). He was also a proud stepfather to Hannah Fasching, Michael Fasching, and Heather Baxter and her husband Mike (son Wyatt).
He is further survived by his cherished mother, Mary Carpenter, age 98, and his brother, Brian Batcheller (wife Cheri Batcheller.)
Also including many cousins that he was close to along with nieces and nephews who all were close to his heart.
Those who knew Mark will remember him as a constant, steady presence in the lives of his wife Sheri, children and grandchildren (he loved being entertaining and goofy). He gave his time generously, always showing up for the big and small moments. His family will forever treasure the memories of weekend swims, summer vacations, early morning texts, and his unmatched ability to make every person feel loved and seen. During the pandemic, Mark began working on a large transit van to bring to life his dream of traveling across the country with Sheri and family. He spent countless hours over the years carefully designing, building, and refining every inch of what became his dream van. The ingenuity and craftsmanship of his creation leave no doubt of his remarkable talent, creativity, and determination.
Mark had a passion for sailing, road-tripping; venturing to the mountains was a favorite and especially spending time at the beach, most notably in Jamaica Beach, a place that held a special place in his heart. His love for music continued throughout his life playing and teaching himself on various 6 and 12 strings guitars. He never wanted to play a copy, he prided himself in his own uniquely created music.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 16th, in Jamaica Beach, Texas, where family and friends will gather to honor the legacy of a man whose warmth, adventurous spirit, and unconditional love will be forever remembered.
