December 11, 1936 - June 18, 2024
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Martha Luisa Mattioli, M.D., born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, daughter of Carolina Margarita Tavella and Santos Alberto Silva. She is survived by her husband Carlos Mattioli, M.D., five children (Valeria, Carlos, Carolina, Federico and Esteban), 14 grandchildren (Sandra, Carlos, Jack, Marta, Katie, Caroline, Madeline, Nathan, Fred, Francesca, Christian, Nicolas, Lucas, and Josephine), 5 great grandchildren (Sebastian, Anastasia, Andrea, Maximilian and William) plus one more on the way (Stella Maris) and her sisters (Monica and Maria de Los Angeles). She met the love of her life at age 17, married him in 1960 and they kept helping each other for the last 70 years. Martha received her Doctor of Medicine degree from Buenos Aires University, emigrating to Buffalo, NY in 1965. There, she discovered several serum markers, presently used to characterize immune disorders. She moved to Houston, TX in 1973, where she was Medical Examiner at Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. She then opened Guadalupe Clinic on the southeast side of Houston, serving the disadvantaged community for 40 years until just before her passing on June 18, 2024. She happily helped her family, friends and countless others with unlimited generosity.
Message From Carlos:
God looked around His garden
And He found an empty place.
He then looked down upon this earth
And saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering.
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills are hard to climb.
So, He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered, “Peace be thine.”
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you didn’t go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
Message From Martha:
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free
To follow the path God made for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call.
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To love, to laugh, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
For I found peace at last, that day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembering joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Oh yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with hearts of sorrow.
My wish for you is the hope of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I’ve savored much,
Good friends, good times,
a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed much too brief,
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wants me now --- He’s set me free.
