Mary Patricia Cheney

Mary Patricia Cheney, age 73, of Houston, TX passed away on Tuesday, March 26th, 2024. Mary "Pat" was a native of Manhattan, New York. Pat had a great love for her Irish-Catholic heritage & traditions.

She spent time in North Carolina, raising her family, while working on her bachelor's degree at Winston-Salem State University. Pat also lived in Virginia and Florida, but ultimately lived in Houston longer than anywhere else. Pat considered herself a Houstonian and a Texan!

While in Texas, Pat earned a Masters in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. Pat spent 30+ years teaching in the Cypress Fairbanks & Alvin ISDs. She had a passion for teaching and guiding her students to grow and develop into exceptional men and women. Even after retirement, she continued this passion of educating and tutoring her students towards their pre-collegiate & life aspirations. Pat is survived by her husband, Frederic "Fred" Cheney and two sons, Scott Cheney and wife Marcia, of Houston, and Ryan Cheney and wife Jeannie, of Houston, and two grandchildren, Declan and Maura Cheney. Pat and Fred enjoyed taking cruises in their spare time and spending time with and spoiling their grandkids. Outside of her love for her family and students, Pat had a deep love for animals and could always be found with one of her furry friends in her lap!!!

Pallbearers will be Scott Cheney, Ryan Cheney, Declan Cheney, Kreg Hall, Kurt Hall, Brian McCauley, and David Lowe. A visitation for Pat will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079. A funeral service will occur Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, St. Edith Stein Catholic Church, 3311 N Fry Rd, Katy, TX 77449. A committal service will follow at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079. The family would like to thank the staff at The Concierge for the loving care given to Mrs. Cheney. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations to be made to the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation.
