

Mary Helen Hill passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021. She was born on Friday, September 30, 1938 in Wedowee, Alabama. She spent her formative years in West Point, Georgia where her family life centered around the church. Helen graduated from West Point High School on May 28, 1956. She was the first person in her family to graduate. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Houston, Texas with her family.
Helen was employed by Houston Endowment for 36 years. She was a Grant Manager and worked primarily with the college scholarship program.. She was also affiliated with Big Brothers Big Sisters for many years. In 2004 Houston Endowment honored Helen by establishing a scholarship in her name, “The Helen Hill Scholarship of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston. Helen attended Second Baptist Church and she made many friends in her Sunday School class. She was also an active member of the Houston Astros Orbitors booster club.
Helen was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was generous and kind. She faced life with joy and a wonderful sense of humor. Helen was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Ruby Hill, sister Betty Joyce Willingham, and brother J.W. Hill. She is survived by brothers Thomas Hill of Valley, Alabama; Robert Hill of Katy, Texas; and Riley T. Hill of Washburn, Missouri. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews Lynn Dean, Lisa Turner, Randy Hill, Venetia Kittrell, Vickie Kolb, Mindy Burkett, Jody Wayne Hill, Kassie Leach-Hill, Robin Waak, Jeff Brown, and Heather Wheeling.
The family would like to give special thanks to Kindred Hospice, Cedar Ridge Alzheimer’s Special Care, and Louise at Cinco Ranch Alzheimer’s Care. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Houston with the designation “in memory of Helen Hill”.
