Mary Julia Escalante Torres

Born on March 5, 1930, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to so many. She was a truly beautiful woman, inside and out, and always faithful to our Lord. Loved by all, she touched so many lives through her kind heart, kind words and sweet smile. She had a gift for listening and made everyone feel special. Affectionately called Nena by her grandchildren, she loved spending time with each of them.

Mary is survived by her husband of 61 years, George Torres; children: Barbara Torres, Phillip (Amy) Torres, Bonnie (David) Tresch, Patrick (Michelle) Torres, MaryAlice (John)Torres-MacDonald, Fabian (Leslie) Torres, and Jeanette (Mark) Pappas. Grandchildren: Greg (Lisa) Ceballos, Zachary, Jordan, Evan, Victoria, Hannah, Joshua, Nathan, Robert, Adam, MaryJulia, Mary, Emma, Chloe, Phillip, Addison, Caleb and Audrey. Great-grandchildren: Gregory, Gavin and Olivia. She is also survived by her sister, Alice Perez and brother, Pete Escalante.

She was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Torres; her mother and father, Barbara and Pete; brothers, Ray, Yori, Hernan and Valdemar Escalante.

Visitation on Monday, June 23rd from 6:00-9:30 p.m. with Rosary at 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston. Funeral mass on Tuesday, June 24th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Dr.
