

Mary Catherine Surginer, age 91, passed away on May 1, 2015. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert Jackson Surginer. She is also survived by her son Brian Surginer; son and daughter in law Michael and Sally Surginer; daughter in law Lisa Surginer and grandchildren Angela Alvarado and her husband Danilo, Justin Surginer, Nicole Surginer, and Zachary Surginer; great grandchildren Isabel, Danilo, and Adela Alvarado, her sister Doris Casserly, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her twin brother Marion “Brother” Clede and her son Robert Paul Surginer.
Mary was a native Houstonian born to Anne O’Reilly Clede and Gus Clede at St. Joseph Hospital. She graduated from Incarnate Word Academy, Class of 1942, in Houston, TX. She worked for Southern Pacific Railroad as key punch operator. Mary was a member of The Catholic Daughters of America and St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. She loved bowling, baking, playing Canasta, and taking care of her family. Mary enjoyed attending the ballet and musicals and even got Jack to accompany her to all of the performances. She was a season ticket holder for the Houston Ballet and Theatre Under the Stars. Mary was a country music fan and especially loved George Strait. Mary was passionate about sports, especially the sports her sons and grandchildren participated in. She knew all of players and they knew her. She attended all of her sons’ and grandchildren’s sporting events, ballet recitals, and Grandparent’s Days. Mary was deeply loved and will be missed by her family and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Tuesday, May 5th from 5:00 – 8:00pm with the Rosary being said at 7:00pm, Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 6th 9:00am at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with interment and a reception to follow directly at Forest Park Westheimer.The family would be honored for contributions to be made in Mary’s name to a charity of your choice.
