Matthew Onyii Odili

Chief Matthew Onyii Odili was born on the 21st day of September of 1952 into the family of Chief Odili Ezenwa and Mrs Isioku of Umunugwo village Ifitedunu in Dunuofia local government area of Anambra State. He was the only child of his mother with two half-brothers and one half-sister.

He belonged to Njikoka age grade in his home town Ifitedunu. Matthew had his primary education at Ozala primary school Ifitedunu and he attended St Mary’s High School Ifitedunu,and after passing his West African School Certificate Examination, he left Nigeria for the United States in 1976.

In the United States, he attended Texas Southern University, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He continued to work hard, taking on different employed positions for a better of quality life, then decided to start his own business. He later extended his business to Nigeria, which required him to devote more of his attention back home, and divide his time between America and Nigeria. He became a successful entrepreneur and owner of multiple businesses.

During this time, he married his better half, Mrs Fidelia Uche Odili in 1980, daughter of Udobi of Ozue village Awkazu in Omabala local government. This marriage was blessed with five children: Dr Uzochukwu Odili, Ms Chika Odili, Mrs. Chioma Odili Ikechukwu, Mr. Chidi Odili, and Ms Ozioma Odili.

Chief Matthew Onyii Odili was hardworking, kind, very humble, honest, and a man of his word. He had a stern character, which led him to choose friends that are real and trustworthy. We his people of Ifitedunu Houston were waiting to see him with his wife on that day December 5th, 2015 at the annual Christmas party. His presence was missed and we will continue to miss him.

He was a caring father who worked hard to support and lift up his family. His hard works served as an example that led to the rearing of 5 successful children. He believed that one must work to achieve success. and that the quality of the effort and the quality of the work usually determines the quality of success you achieve. His legacy will live on in our hearts, our dreams, and our future success. May you rest in peace Matthew.
