Mauro Santiago Garcia, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025. He was born on January 15, 1942, in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, and had been a resident of Houston for over 73 years.
Mauro was the heart and soul of his family—a patriarch who led with strength, compassion, and selflessness. He cherished the simple things in life, enjoying quality time with family, cooking, playing games, and singing and dancing to music. He was an active member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, where his faith and commitment to serving others were unwavering.
Mauro is survived by his wife, Maria Alanis de Garcia; his sisters, Janie Castillo and Alice Montelongo; and his children: Mauro Garcia Jr., Richard Garcia, Louis Garcia, Anita Dominguez, Mark Garcia, Daniel Garcia, Stepchildren -Flor Alanis, Humberto Vargas, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many other family members and friends.
Mauro was preceded in death by his parents, Salvador and Josefa Garcia, as well as his siblings: Olga, Margarita, Mario, Benita, Ezequiel, Antonio, Jesus, Clemente, Cristina, and Martin.
A visitation for Mauro will be held Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel, 5100 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77022. A rosary service will occur Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 7:00 PM, 5100 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77022. A funeral mass will occur Friday, May 2, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1505 Kane Street, Houston, Texas 77007. A committal service to Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery will occur Friday, May 2, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
