Melvin Clark Gunter Jr.

Melvin C. Gunter Jr. was born on August 28, 1966 to the late Melvin C. Gunter Sr. and Bessie Gunter. Melvin was the eldest of four children. He spent his younger years at Ryan Junior Middle School and graduated from Jack Yates High School. Jack Yates is where he was a phenomenal football player, where he was being seek out by scouts. Melvin's love and passion for football continued to be a full filled while attending Texas Southern University. Melvin passed on the love and passion of football to his sons, whom both followed in his footsteps by playing the position running back. Melvin also inspired other young boys by coaching little league football.

Melvin's love and passion would change over the years. Accepting Christ by being baptized by pastor David O. Roberson at The Empowerment Church where him and his wife of 34 years were wed. Melvin worked for the City of Houston for 30 years and just retired from the city on January 31, 2023.

Melvin leaves behind his loved ones to cherish and love his memory, wife Betty, son Kevin, daughter Courtney and husband Eric, son Dominique, grandchildren Yazmariah, Zyriah, Jeremiah, Dillon, Destiny, Devyn, mother Bessie, brother Thomas and wife Marcella, brother Terry, sister Tammy, uncles, aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Melvin is preceded in death by his father Melvin C. Gunter Sr., uncles Dan J. Williams and Willie Williams, grandmother's Teresa Williams and Helda Anderson, and grandfather James Gunter.

A memorial service for Melvin will be held Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077.
