Michael Kenneth Kuhn, of Houston, passed away on Monday, the 14th of April 2025, after a short and fierce battle with cancer. He was a loving and deeply loved husband, father, brother, friend, and colleague. He was 70 years of age.
Michael was born on the 10th of June 1954, in Oceanside, California to Gerald E. and Muriel (Ries) Kuhn. He graduated as the valedictorian from George C. Marshall High School in Falls Church, Virginia in 1972. He received his B.A. magna cum laude from Duke University where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, and his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1979.
Michael was a Board-certified commercial real estate lawyer for forty-five years, including twenty-five years at Jackson Walker. He was recognized multiple times among the Best Lawyers in America, Texas Super Lawyers, and Top Lawyers by H Texas magazine, and he was also ranked by Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business. He served as a past president of the Real Estate section of the Houston Bar Association.
Michael married Kathleen Nicholas Kuhn on the 19th of May 1984. They raised one daughter, Kathryn Lauren Kuhn who he loved with all his heart. Michael and Kathleen shared a forty-year love affair, spending quiet time cooking, traveling, or relaxing at their Colorado home. They cycled, ran, and hiked globally, including the Camino de Santiago in Spain and the Nakasendo Way in Japan.
He loved music across many genres, from organ music to rock and roll. His vast musical knowledge allowed him to connect with people through his music. His many talents extended to writing and included his book, "Lender Liability: Legal and Management Strategies."
Michael said: “I have hope.” This hope gave him the courage to fight his cancer but also to know that this life was only the beginning of his new life with Christ. His quiet faith in God guided his respectful and compassionate treatment of everyone. Known for his quick wit, he frequently laughed until tears came to his eyes.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Muriel Kuhn; his paternal grandparents, Herbert and Julie (Stern) Kuhn; and his maternal grandparents, Henry and Elsie (Kraft) Ries.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his daughter, Kate and her husband Zach Archuleta; his sister, Jackie Feeser; his two brothers, Steve Kuhn, and Phil Kuhn; as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews.
