

Mike Crofford passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010, in Houston, Texas. Mike attended Conley Tech in Waco, Texas, and was president of Crofford Construction Company for 34 years. In addition to being a successful businessman, Mike had a passion for auto racing. He started his racing career as a driver in 1969 when his father purchased a ’59 Chevy to race at Alameda dirt track. Mike transitioned to asphalt the next year to race at Meyer Speedway, finishing on top in points in the Hobby Stock class. After an accident in the race shop ended his driving career, he focused on the mechanics, design and development of the racecars, building and working on cars with HB Bailey, Ronnie Chumley and Greg Davidson. It is in this community of racing that Mike involved his family, passing the racing tradition onto his son and grandson. Up until his death you would see him at Houston Motorsports Park working with his son, son-in-law and grandson, spotting for them and his close friends, and enjoying the racing life with those he loved very, very much. Loving family members: wife of 33 years, Sondra Crofford. Son, Michael Crofford. Daughter, Gina Schild-Knowles and son-in-law Randall ‘Bo’ Knowles Sister, Mickey Yung. Brother, Robert Crofford. Mother, Betty Crofford. Loving grandchildren: Mason Mitchell and Taylor Jo Knowles along with many nieces and nephews and many, many close and special friends. Preceded in death by his father, Maurice ‘Meau’ Crofford and mother, Signe Makie. Pallbearers: Greg Davidson, Jim Ray, Steve Makie, Mason Mitchell, Mark West, Michael Crofford. Honorary: Randall ‘Bo’ Knowles, Parker Pustejovsky. Visitation: Sunday, March 21, 2010 from 3-6pm. Funeral: Monday, March 22, 2010 at 10am with a short graveside goodbye to follow.
