

Nancy Bennigan Calderone was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on April 9, 1940, and went to be with the Lord on September 16, 2025. Nancy was reunited with her parents James and Virginia Bennigan and her brother James Bennigan Jr. and her sister Joan Stevens.
Nancy is survived by her children son Steven Calderone, daughter Susan Calderone, her brother Patrick Bennigan as well as her nephew Robert Stevens, niece Nancy Barcellus and great niece Christine Barcellus.
Nancy cherished so many friendships throughout her life. These were lifelong bonds which began in college at Michigan State University, through her 35+ year career at Sears, and in the neighborhoods, she called home. Nancy became an honorary member of the Woodrow Wilson Classics ladies’ group and attended the annual reunions for over 40 years. In her retirement years, Nancy broadened her extensive friendships to include people she met through various social clubs such bunco, book club and garden club. These friendships brought Nancy such happiness and laughter filling her life with intense joy.
Nancy bravely fought cancer for multiple years and although these were difficult years the friendships Nancy made provided her with much-needed comfort, support, and love. In 2012, Nancy joined a cancer support group which introduced her to some of her closest friends and began her relationship with St. Peter's United Methodist Church of Katy. Nancy became a member of the church as well as the United Methodist Women, the Heritage Sunday School class and attended many years of bible study classes. St. Peters and the friendships made there were cherished by Nancy and helped shape the final years of her life. The outpouring of warmth, support and heartfelt love Nancy received was a bright light that shined during some of the most challenging times.
Through St. Peters, Nancy also developed a special place in her heart for a singing group called Caring Harmony. The leadership and members of the group provided Nancy with love and support until her final days by singing at Nancy’s bedside. The beautiful songs that Nancy loved brought a sense of peace during a very somber time.
Throughout her life Nancy loved to host and attend parties. She adored celebrating every occasion with the people she cherished. Nancy was a wonderful host and thought through every detail. Her home was welcoming and decorated for every occasion.
Shopping and having lunch with friends were some of her favorite things to do. Nancy loved fashion and putting together cute outfits to include matching shoes and handbags. It was rare to catch Nancy when she was not adorned with jewelry and often a beautiful scarf.
Nancy enjoyed sharing stories with a captive audience. She liked to entertain and make people laugh. Her laughter was infectious and brought joy to so many. Nancy was fun and young at heart although over time her body could not keep up with what her mind and adventurous spirit still wanted to do.
Nancy was not only a special friend, but she also excelled as a sister. She and her sister Joan were best friends and when Joan went to heaven Nancy missed her dearly. Now they are together again in a joyous reunion. Nancy’s younger brother Patrick has always held a special place in her heart, and she will be watching over him every day.
One of Nancy’s most important roles was as a mother to her children, Steven and Susan. Nancy was their biggest supporter and showed them a lifetime of encouragement, comfort, and love. Nancy was an example of unwavering and unconditional love and made her children feel special, important, and cherished. Nancy emulated how to treat people with patience, kindness, and respect. Her strong work ethic has passed down to her children. Nancy made abundant sacrifices over the years for Steven and Susan as they were her priority. They will carry her love and a lifetime of beautiful memories for the rest of their lives.
Nancy was also mom to many cats and dogs throughout her life. Her precious pets brought such happiness to Nancy’s life, she loved each one. Nancy often had two cats at a time and referred to them as, “the boys”. Her pets enriched her life providing her with companionship.
Nancy’s family would like to thank all of you for the love and support you have shown Nancy throughout her life. Nancy cherished each of you and the joy, love, and friendship you brought to her life.
