Nazmy Fouad Mankarious, 82, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Leila and their three children, Randa, wife of Medhat Karkour, Ramy, husband of Rania Mankarious and Mary, wife of Gus Chalhoub. Nazmy and Leila have eight grandchildren: Leana and Liz Karkour, Olivia, Emma and Evelyn Mankarious and Levi, Mia and Gavin Chalhoub. Thankfully, he got to see them all before he passed away. This September, he and Leila would have been married for 48 years. He is also survived by his beloved brother, Adel Mankarious and his wife Nawal. Nazmy had two brothers who have also passed, Rifaat Mankarious, husband of Rose Mankarious and Gamil Mankarious husband of Elaine. He is also survived by his two sisters living in Egypt, Souad and Sohair Mankarious.
Nazmy was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt and was a graduate of Ain Shams University. He had a wonderful job as an accountant in Barclays Bank in Cairo but left all of that behind when he moved to Texas with his wife and family in 1969. Since coming to America, his goal has always been to give everything he could to his wife and children and create a great life for them. He did this with great success. Over the years, his work brought him to Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Venezuela.
When not working, Nazmy loved to travel and spend time with his family. He was one of the founding members of St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Church and an avid lover of poetry and gardening. He was most known by his children and their friends as having a great sense of humor and a sharp mind.
Most of all, Nazmy loved life and the celebration of things that are important. There was never an occasion where he did not have a speech prepared and a kind word and prayer to say. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
