She was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago on September 7th, 1988, to Barbara Trotman Sanders and Desmond Humes.
Nekaiya attended Curtis High School before joining the military, then obtained her bachelor’s in Journalism from SUNY New Paltz and her master’s in Human Resources from University of Houston- Clear Lake.
Nekaiya is survived by; her parents, Barbara and Desmond; sisters, Dionne, Akilah and Aleisha; brother-in-laws, Keith and Akil; nieces, Jade and Joy; nephews, Jaylen, Sadario, Akil Jr. and Jasiah; grandparents, Irving and Lillian as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.
A visitation for Nekaiya will be held Friday, December 1, 2023 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Paradise Funeral Home, Inc, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088, followed by a funeral service from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM.
