

Nell Ruth (Robinson) Lynch was born May 2, 1931 in Danville, Bienville Parish, Louisiana and passed away peacefully January 30, 2015 at Houston Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Nell grew up in Danville, Baltimore, MD and East St. Louis, IL. Nell was raised in the Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the choir and displayed her beautiful soprano voice. Nell was an excellent student in high school and was awarded an academic scholarship to Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Nell was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and earned a BA degree in History from Washington University. Upon graduation, she was a primary grade school teacher for 5 years. While at Washington University, Nell met Edward Conover Lynch whom she married on June 18, 1955. Later they lived in Rochester, NY for 2 years, in Fort Bragg, NC for 2 years and settled in Houston in 1962 where Ed pursued a career in academic internal medicine for 47 years. Nell was strongly supportive of Ed’s academic responsibilities. Nell’s greatest passion was her children and supported their education and all of their many other activities. She was a very selfless person who always considered the needs of others before her own. A loving and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Nell’s greatest passions in life were her family, her pets, her garden and serving others. Nell was an active member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church. She traveled to many foreign countries and she undertook overseas mission trips to help people in impoverished countries, including the construction of homes for AIDS orphans in Kenya and the education of Kenyan children. She was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth Monroe Robinson and Ruth Eufaula Robinson and two brothers, Kenneth Monroe Robinson, Jr. and William DeWitt Robinson. She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years Dr. Edward Conover Lynch and four children and their spouses, son Dr. Edward Douglas Lynch and daughter-in-law Dr. Karna Wahlstrand of South Pasadena, CA, son Dr. David Robinson Lynch and daughter-in-law Dr. Laura Balcer of Gladwyne, PA, daughter Deborah Lynch Shelton and son-in-law Roger Shelton of Houston, TX, and son Dr. Stephen Russell Lynch and daughter-in-law Vivian Kwon of Santa Clara, CA, and three granddaughters, Abby, Sophie and Natalie Lynch. Nell is also survived by her sister, Myrna Robinson Muirhead and sister-in-law Ruth Robinson, nephews Blake and Stuart Muirhead and Mark, Brent and David Robinson and nieces Paige Muirhead, Lauren Howington, Kristen Robinson and Mary Pritchard. She is also survived by her granddogs Peyton and Casey Shelton.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with Nell’s family on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. A private burial service for family only will take place on Friday, February 6, and a public memorial service celebrating Nell’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, February 6, 2015 at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Street Houston, Texas.
