

Norma Jean Robinson Battista, 76, died peacefully in her home October 2nd, 2013, surrounded by her beloved family and grandchildren. She fought many courageous battles with a variety of cancers throughout her life but in the end, aggressive and terminal lymphoma robbed her family of her body but not her spirit.
Born April 25th, 1937 in Greenville, SC to Maxine and Marlin Robinson, she spent her childhood in the South before proudly graduating Valedictorian from Hugh Morson High School in Raleigh, NC and attending Lees-McRae Junior College in Banner Elk, NC. Following graduation, she worked as a cytotechnologist at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston Salem, NC and then at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC. Married to Elio Justino Battista on November 25th, 1961, they shared 47yrs together until his death in 2009. Most notably, her tireless energy and devotion was directed toward her family and subdivision HOA where she served as president from 1994 to 2013.
Preceded in death by her parents and husband, Norma leaves daughter Cheryl and son-in-law Brent Crummey, their children Jared(14) and Kendall(10), and son Derek and daughter-in-law Jennifer Battista, and their children Luke(11) and Mallory(8) of Houston TX, and brother Jim Robinson, wife Patricia and children Jim and Meredith of Chester VA, to keep her memory alive. Holidays, weekly Sunday dinners and the trips to Orlando and Destin, FL are fond and very vivid memories of some of the numerous happy times spent together.

Norma’s family would like for you to join them at her visitation at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, October 7, 2013 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Services celebrating her life will begin at 12:30 P.M. in the chapel of Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Concluding services Norma will be entombed in Oaks Mausoleum in Memorial Oaks Cemetery. In lieu on customary remembrances, Norma’s family respectfully requests donations be made to a local charity of your choice.
