

NORMAN FAY "NORM"LIVERMORE, age 91, passed away peacefully on the 23rd of September 2010 in Houston.The son of Nelson and Dorothy Livermore, Norm was born on the 15th of August 1919, in Flint, Michigan.Norm grew up in Flint, graduated from high school, and worked for American Airlines prior to joining the Marine Corps in May of 1941. He trained as an aerographer at the New Jersey Naval Air Station and served in the 51st Marine Aircraft Group in the Virgin Islands. He later trained as a Marine Aircraft Gunner and left the Marines as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1944Prior to finishing his military tour, he married his first love, Florence Winifred Johnson, also from Flint, Michigan. They married on the 3rd of July 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
After the war, he started working as a loan officer for a local bank in Flint, followed by a position with the Packard Motor Company. He traveled extensively and was recruited by Chrysler Corporation's Dealer Enterprise Division to take over failing Dealerships, get them up and running, and then sell them to other entrepreneurial individuals. He also scouted for new locations and built factory owned dealerships, which were also franchised out to new owner/operators.Norm moved from Miami, Florida in 1963 and left Chrysler to become the owner of Palm Center Dodge in Houston. He later purchased land on the Gulf Freeway at the 610 Loop and opened Norm Livermore's Gulf Coast Dodge. He became one of Houston's largest automotive dealers and an advertising icon who first utilized TV and radio in new and innovative ways such as live walk on ads during the Guy Savage sports show, Sunday Wrestling with Paul Bosch, and jingles sung by Mel Tomé and Robert Goulet, not to mention dominating the front page of the Chronicle's advertising section for many years. He is still remembered as an active, kind, compassionate, and generous individual who served as the Chairman of the Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon, Life Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and a number of numerous local charities and boards. As an avid pilot and aviator, Norm also served as a Deputy Sheriff in Harris County's Search and Rescue Division.
Norm was predeceased by his wife, Florence, in 1981; sisters, Marjorie Heiderer in 1988 and Dorothy Dage in 1992; daughter, Kathy Ann Wall in 2001; and granddaughter, the late Nichole Livermore in 2005.He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Word; son, Robert "Bob" Livermore and wife Dina Kohleffel of Houston, grandchildren, Joe Livermore, Rusty Word, Heather Ratliff, Carrie Pressler, Brian Smith, and 14 great grandchildren.
Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Norm from four o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening on Thursday, the 30th of September, in the Grand Foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.The family is to gather for a private inurnment service at Woodlawn Garden of Memories at a later date.
