Orlando Munive, our “Papi” or “El Loco Parlante” as some of his friends called him back in his NY days because he had a fervent love for MUSIC. “Parlante”, meaning Loudspeakers, soundbars, subwoofers you name it. He had them everywhere and they were loud, and that’s how he listened to his Salsa & Ballenato music every weekend. Hence why some say it’s no wonder the Munives speak so loudly, often being confused with arguing but NOPE, those were just normal conversation tones for the Munives.
Orlando was born in Santa Marta, Colombia on August 13, 1938 to his late parents, Alejandro Tiberio and Emilia Munive. He married his sweetheart Maritza Diaz on March 19, 1961. During their 62-year union, they endured many trials and tribulations and the great joy and happiness that came with raising five children, Inirida (Candy), Maritza, Yennys, Orlando Jr. and Mildred (Milly). Through it all, they remained strong, devoted, best friends and in love until God called him home. Orlando was a provider and led his children by example. He left Colombia seeking a better life for his family and migrated to New York in 1967 where he continued his career in Avianca Airlines and then with AeroMexico Airlines when he transferred his family to Houston, TX. in 1978. He worked there for 21 years.
Orlando loved many things, but most of all he loved his family. He always found a way to tell his friends he loved all his children equally and had no room for favoritism allowing them to be disciplined the same. His greatest message became his Legacy “Family is Everything”. His love for his children and all those near and dear to his heart (you all know who you are) was obvious to everyone that knew him. He was and will always be a proud father or “father-like” figure to many. Orlando enjoyed not only his Sunday afternoon dinners with family but also loved dancing, fishing with his grandkids, camping, traveling, and throwing parties for any reason and let’s not forget his fedora hats. Orlando was a strong-minded person who lived his life the way he wanted to, and no one could ever change that. He wasn’t perfect and not always easy but was a loving father and friend to many. Orlando was the “go-to” guy whenever you needed something. He touched the lives of many people with his unique and contagious dance moves and maintained his trademark charisma all the way to the end.
Orlando made his transition to be with the Lord on December 8, 2022 after battling vascular dementia brought on after open-heart surgery in 2014. He has departed the well-traveled roads of this world to travel onto the next. He will be missed and forever be remembered by his devoted wife Maritza, and his five children along with his 14 grandchildren, Sergio, Jenny, Anjanae, Irina, Felicia, Angela, Carlosjovanie, C’mauri, Yadira, Deijeine, Hector, Gabriel, Orlando III, and Paris. His 14 loving great-grandchildren Maya, Aliyeah, Jadyn, Sergio (Gio), Atiana, Alenia, Adelila, Julian, Bryan, Alen Jr., Maddox, Charlie, Axel and Leyah along with countless friends and relatives who were blessed to know him.
