Otto William "Bill" McCurdy was born in Hobart, OK, to his parents Aileen Pearl Geis McCurdy and Thomas Lankford McCurdy on September 26th, 1935. Being the first grandchild, he was named after his mother's father, Otto Geis.
He and his brothers Jack, Al, and David later moved to Gotebo, Ok and then to Canadian, TX where his dad owned a private airport; this is where Bill acquired his love for planes and flying.
In his High School years, the family moved to Tulsa, OK where Bill graduated from Will Rogers High School in1954, where he enjoyed playing the tuba in the Rogers High School marching band.
Upon graduation, Bill was drafted into the Navy during the Korean conflict and served his country for four years on the USS Boxer aircraft carrier, and later in the Reserves for two years.
After his service to our nation, Bill attended Oklahoma State University to earn his college degree through the GI Bill and while attending a church revival, he met a local girl named Frances (Fran) Mae Silver. He was captivated by this Christian girl and courted her later asking for her hand in marriage. This is where their epic love story began, and lasted for 63 years of marriage.
Both Bill and Frances graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1960. Bill started his working career at Seismograph Corporation in Tulsa, OK, and later expanded his career to Crest Engineering.
His many career opportunities took the family to the Netherlands for almost a year, where Fran, Mark, Mike and Shea were able to explore Europe. During that time, Bill was designing oil platforms that are still in production today.
Bill had a true engineer's mind and loved putting large scale model airplanes together and flying them...he pretty much loved putting anything together.....fixed a washing machine by taking it completely apart and putting it back together or fixing things that anyone would bring to him. If Gorilla Glue could fix it, it was fixed!
When he wasn't 'fixing,' he loved traveling with Fran in their RV as well as taking family cruises.
Throughout his marriage and the raising and caring for his three children, Bill educated and instilled his strong faith in God and Jesus to their children; he lived a Christian life before them. Always an active member of the Church, Bill was an active Deacon at Second Baptist Church, Cypress, member of the Lakeshore Bible Study Group and participated in the Men's Bible Study Group.
Most of all he loved his wife and children and passionately cared and protected them; his gentle kindness always resonated with his sweet genuine smile.
Bill passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family to join his Heavenly Father and those that passed before him, where he will be reunited with his father, Thomas Lankford McCurdy, and his mother, Aileen Pearl Geis McCurdy, and his brother, Jack McCurdy.
Otto William "Bill" McCurdy is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Frances (Fran) Mae McCurdy, his children, Mark McCurdy, Mike McCurdy and Shea McCurdy Soler, his grandchildren Alex McCurdy, Meghan McCurdy Gray, Madison McCurdy and Nathan McCurdy as well as a great grandson, Asher McCurdy.
He lived an inspiring life that touched many lives...his kind heart and loving spirit will be a legacy to his family, friends & fellow believers.
