First and foremost, Patsy was profoundly devoted to her faith as a Catholic. She spent much of her time in prayer throughout her life. Beyond that, she was a sister, daughter, mother, grandmother, and a great-grandmother. Faith and family meant everything to her. She ensured we had a solid foundation in Catholicism and that we had close relationships with our extended family. All three of her children are very close and support each other, unwaveringly.
Patsy's friends and family describe her as funny and feisty! She didn't know she was as funny as she was, although people often told her. She knew she was feisty, though! She was always quick with witty responses and anecdotes, many at her own expense, which spoke to her humble nature. She brought joy and laughter to all who knew her. We will miss her feisty nature most of all.
She was also known for her impeccable wardrobe and for never leaving home without makeup. In fact, when she fell and broke her hip many years ago, she insisted we wait to call the ambulance until she had her makeup on!
Patsy had a long career as a nurse. She graduated from nurse's training in San Antonio in 1949. She worked as an Occupational Nurse at Humble Oil, which later became Exxon, and was among the first nursing professionals to administer the polio vaccine. In later years, she substituted in school clinics, and, at the end of her career, she was a psychiatric/substance abuse rehabilitation nurse. She said her favorite thing as a nurse was to assist alcoholics safely detox so they could begin their journey of recovery.
Patsy's charitable donations are too extensive to list. She donated to many Catholic charities, Military veteran organizations, organizations and hospitals that care for children, Native American causes, as well as anything else that landed on her doorstep.
