Patrick Jun-Loop Wong, 76, passed away surrounded by family on January 6, 2025, in Houston, Texas. He was born in Hoiping, Guangdong, China, on August 21, 1948. He immigrated to the United States in the early 1970s, shortly after his parents and siblings.
Patrick was preceded in death by his father, Gang Yat Wong, and his mother, Yue Fong Wong. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Felisa Mira Wong, and their four children: daughter Myra Wong Thi and son-in-law Andy Thi, grandson Anderson, granddaughter Madeline; daughter Marie Wong and son-in-law Jason Boatright; daughter Michelle Wong and son-in-law Gojko Matovic; son Mike Wong and daughter-in-law Julie Nguyen. He is also survived by his siblings Paul, Lisa, Rose, Peter, and Vickie, along with their spouses, children, and grandchildren.
Patrick attended La Salle College, one of the best secondary schools in Hong Kong, where he was a tennis champion. He completed pharmacy school with honors in an accelerated program and subsequently earned an MBA, both at the University of Houston. During his college years, he supported himself by working as a waiter. He spent most of his career as a registered pharmacist at St. Joseph Hospital, where he met his wife, Felisa, and later worked for Kroger until his retirement. He was a devoted husband and father who took exceptional care of his family. He valued education deeply and drove his four children to pursue accomplished careers: two of them became physicians, one a CRNA, and the other an attorney.
Patrick continued to play tennis and took up the piano as an adult, sharing these hobbies with his children. He enjoyed listening to music, classical and other, and had an extensive collection of CDs. He loved photography and documented his family’s life through countless pictures and videos, which will be cherished forever. He constantly read the news and any other nonfiction he could get his hands on, as he believed, in essence, that knowledge is power. He was determined, disciplined, pragmatic, tenacious, and inquisitive; he was a man of action, not words. Later in life, with his loving wife, he enjoyed traveling, watching Chinese dramas, spending time with their children and grandchildren, and caring for their three cats.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2025, from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. and a committal service at 11 a.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079.
