Paula Ruth Trowbridge, 84 years of age, of Cypress, Texas departed to be with her Lord and Savior and the love of her life, her husband, Joe Trowbridge on April 15, 2025 at 7:15 am. I am not sure if she was more thrilled to see my dad or the Lord when she ran to the gates of Heaven, but I know she square danced with him before the Lord because that is what my mom and dad did for a long time after my dad retired. I know she must have wondered what she would do the day she would go to heaven and see her Lord and Savior… would she dance, would she be in awe, would she stand in his presence or drop to her knees, would she sing hallelujah or be able to speak at all…. We all decided she would dance when she saw her Lord.
When writing obituary, you are expected to include all the wonderful things you can think of about the deceased, but in this instance, I think it’s only appropriate and fair to talk about the love she had for my dad. Their love was truly amazing. She met Joe while going to college at Arkansas Tech and they were married on August 21, 1960. Joe was the love of her life and they, together, shared a life full of adventures and complete love for each other. They traveled the world together while my dad was in the Army and then when he retired, they wasted no time and continued their adventures for another 19 years. They had such fun and made so many wonderful friends along the way. They were the example of true love and it was evident to all that met them, that the Lord sure knew what he was doing when He joined these two hearts. As their daughter, it was a great honor to witness the love they had for each other and I am thankful for their example. Very few in their lives have a love like my parents had. Loving my dad completely and faithfully until her dying breath is my mom’s legacy. Yes, she loved and cared for us, their three children, Paul Wayne, Joe David and me, Susan O’Lea, but man oh man did she love my dad. I think it’s only right that I talk about their love for each other because that is what made her …. HER. When losing my dad in 2014, although it was expected, we were not prepared for how my mom would be without my dad. You see, when you share a love like they had it’s hard to go on as now a singular person because the two of them truly were one. It’s like living without your right arm. She longed for the day that she would be with my dad again, but she trudged on because she knew the Lord still had plans for her on this earth. The last 11 years of her life Paula enjoyed her 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren as well and 2 more on the way. Although we are sad that she has physically left us but we find comfort knowing she is with our dad and the Lord. She will always be in our hearts and we know that she will be watching over us.
