Pete is lovingly remembered by his children Mary (deceased), Rosie, Pete, Connie (Kevin), Paul (Renita), Johnny (Carolyn), and Lisa, as well as, 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren (including one expected later this year), 2 great-great-grandchildren, his brother Armando, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Lupe, daughter Mary Chacon, his parents, grandson Carlos Solis, and many siblings.
Pete was born in Laredo, Texas, and spent his childhood growing up with his 3 brothers and 5 sisters. Truly a self-made man, Pete’s constant pursuit of perfection served him well when he founded a successful residential masonry business that contributed to the growth of the River Oaks and Memorial neighborhoods in Houston. He created a stellar reputation and enjoyed membership in a River Oaks builders social group during the 1980s. He operated his company until he retired at the age of 60.
Pete married the love of his life and soul mate, Maria Guadalupe “Lupe” Mendez in 1959. Together they raised 7 children and settled in a home constructed by Pete in Humble. From Humble, they moved into another home built by Pete in Spring where they remained for the rest of their lives. Pete and Lupe’s life together is a testament to enduring love. When Lupe passed away in early 2020, Pete was devastated and the pain of her loss grew over time. In his final days, he focused on being reunited with Lupe in heaven and would often exclaim to his children, “I am going to see your mom again soon!”
Pete enjoyed family gatherings, dancing, camping, hunting with his best friend, Juan Garcia, crossword puzzles, fishing, cooking, and watching television, particularly westerns and war movies. He loved to prepare homemade salsas, pico de gallo, pinto beans, and vegetable soup, all family favorites. Spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was his joy.
The family extends their gratitude for all of the kindness they have received.
