Peter “Pete” Stephan Tevlin went to celebrate forever in the House of the Lord on Monday, September 11 at age 63. Born to loving parents Leo Joseph and Mary Anna Tevlin (nee Fouch) in St. Louis on September 15, 1959; he was the fifth of eight children. An extremely selfless and curious man, beloved husband, father, brother, friend, and “the man who can fix anything”, he is rejoicing in joining his father Leo J., mother Mary Anna, and brother Dominic.
Pete grew up in Normandy, Missouri, with his siblings and extended family. In recollections of his youth many years later, it was always with great fondness and celebration of friendship, faith, and family. As a child, thanks to the flight benefits provided by Mary Anna’s job at TWA, he traveled the world with his family, visiting 22 countries on five continents. Some favorites included The Vatican, Africa, and Australia. He attended Normandy High School, graduating in 1977, then went on to study at Florissant Valley Community College graduating in 1979 with a degree in Industrial Electronics Technology.
In the early eighties, Pete followed his siblings Leo and Linda and made Texas his home. He worked among friends and coworkers at Welex and Agar before being hired at Compaq in 1989, where he would spend the rest of his 30-year career until retiring in 2019. The work he did at Compaq and then HP has had far-reaching effects on worldwide computing.
In 1981, Pete met Kimberly David on a blind date. They were married at Christ the Good Shepherd on June 4, 1983 in Spring, Texas. As newlyweds, they built a home and cultivated a community of friends and coworkers in Katy. They welcomed Kyle Joseph in 1987 and Shannon Marie in 1992. Pete and Kim moved to Cypress in 1993 and welcomed Kristin Nicole in 1998.
Throughout his children’s lives and activities, he was the definition of an involved parent. From cub scouts to Kyle earning his Eagle Scout Award, Pete served as scout leader, camping extraordinaire, and taught his son how to be a selfless leader through his actions. He supported Shannon and Kristin in their high school color guard activities and served on the booster board at Cy-Fair High School. He was a spiritual leader, guiding his children through their sacraments in the Church as well as countless others through his volunteer work with the youth ministry team. In his professional life and into retirement, he eagerly volunteered with the Information Technology Resource Center supporting those in need during disaster relief efforts.
Pete enjoyed his retirement thoroughly, making the most of the sentiment often shared by his father before him “I never knew how busy I was until I retired.” He enjoyed many hobbies throughout the years, including creating websites, working on cars, helping his children with countless projects, engineering creative solutions for everyday problems, serving on the neighborhood board, watching football and baseball, finding new music to listen to, singing to Taylor Swift with his daughters, fixing computers, fishing, enjoying a good cup of coffee, traveling, crafting with Kim, chatting with his siblings on their weekly calls, and spending time with others most of all.
At his core, Pete was the epitome of a selfless leader with a heart for others. He shared his gifts with many, and his profound sense of curiosity propelled him through life and taught those around him to continuously learn and grow. If you drew a Venn diagram of the many communities and lives Pete touched, it would be vast and far-reaching with his smile right at the center.
Pete is survived by his wife Kim Tevlin, son Kyle Tevlin, daughter Shannon O’Bryant and husband Doug, daughter Kristin Young and husband Ryan, as well as his siblings, Anna Lee, Linda, Mary, Leo, Louis, and Amy.
