Raymond Monroe Hill, Jr., age 53, passed away on Wednesday, the 14th of July 2010, after a courageous struggle against complications sustained from a tragic accident that occurred nine months earlier. A fifth generation Texan, he was born to Raymond Monroe Hill, Sr. and Jerauld Lollar Hill on the 19th of August 1956, in Houston, Texas, which was his lifetime home.
Raymond was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. George Alfred Hill, Jr., Mr. & Mrs. John Henry Lollar, Jr.; and his former wife, Paula Joy Fleming Hill.
He is survived by his parents; daughter, Rebekah Hill Anderson and husband, William Wesley Anderson of Cowley, Wyoming; and sons, Raymond Monroe Hill, III, and John Francis Hill of Houston, Texas; siblings, Ruth Jerauld Hill Goodpasture and husband Frank, III, of Bristol, Virginia, Verlinde Van den Berge Hill Doubleday and husband Dr. Charles William of Houston, and Benjamin Harvey Hill and wife Elisabeth Colby of Boise, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Raymond graduated from Phelps Academy in Malvern, Pennsylvania in 1975. He then attended classes at Weatherford Junior College in Weatherford, Texas. Over the years he was employed at Mainland Savings & Loan Association, Nicoletti’s Lamp Shop, Chevron, and Radio Sales and Service.
His greatest loves were his three children and his family. He enjoyed hunting at the family ranch in Victoria County, fishing, the great outdoors, and games of all kinds. His most precious gift to those who knew him was a dark night covered in fireworks. His infectious smile earned him the nickname “SMILEY.” Raymond was a generous soul with a heart the size of Texas who never met a stranger or a person with whom he could not become friends.
Friends are cordially invited to join the family for a celebration of Raymond’s life at noon Friday, the 23rd of July, in the Chapel of The Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston, where the Rev. Jan F. Dantone, Assistant Rector, is to officiate.
Immediate following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Sumners Hall.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be made to Texas Wildlife Association 2800 North Loop 410, Suite 105, San Antonio, Texas 78218, www.texas-wildlife.org; or to the charity of one’s choice.
