Richard “Rick” Esenwein was born in Houston on the 27th of January 1980, to Robert and Janis Esenwein, and passed on to join his beloved mother and our Lord above on Thursday, the 21st of December 2023. He was 43 years of age.
Rick enjoyed his 24 years of service as Survey Party Chief at McKim & Creed (formerly Survcon Inc.), and prided himself on his work ethic and in teaching his profession at Texas A&M University as well. His work travels brought him such joy, exploring new places and meeting new friends.
Rick was a humble man, who never met a stranger, and who had a keen eye for the arts. Creative in nature, his culinary skills were his greatest pride and joy. His art was not just in the taste and the beauty of his food, for he delighted most in sharing his gifts with friends and family, bringing everyone together for a good meal and good times spent by all.
Rick’s creative palette extended to more than just food. He found pleasure in viewing and selecting artwork, ranging from some of the most famous artists, to amateur local artists.
It was no secret that Rick’s blood ran orange for the University of Texas Longhorns. However, he was proud to own in his wardrobe his niece and nephew’s college team’s attire, as well as his Astros gear.
Some of Ricky’s favorite pastimes, after cooking, were fishing, kayaking, watching college football and the Astros, and snuggling up with his fur-human, Crash Davis, to watch classic films. He reveled in the delight of his films and often used classic film phrases in conversation.
Rick was a generous man, who always found a way to give back to the community through charities and benefits. He had an unparalleled sense of humor joined with the kind of laughter and smile that filled the room.
A devoted son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, Rick was a man of many talents and pleasures in life, who found the most fulfillment in spending quality time with family. He will be most remembered as being a man with a heart the size of Texas, who loved his family and friends unequivocally. One of his greatest joys was to spend time with his dad fishing in Rockport/Fulton Texas.
Our family would like to thank all of his friends and family for being supportive through our loss.
Richard is survived by his father, Robert Esenwein; his brother, Sean Clark and his wife Janet; his niece and nephew, Ethan and Alexa; his sister, Sarah Esenwein; and cousins, Jason Lemoine and Emily Piwetz
In lieu of customary remembrances, to honor Rick’s wishes, memorial contributions may be directed to an animal rescue of your choice.
