Richard Eugene Flott, Sr., 90, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 6, 2018, at Wood Glen Court Retirement Community, Spring, Texas. Richard was born on March 3, 1928 in Emporia, Kansas to George and Letha Flott. He graduated from Emporia High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea from 1946 to 1948. Richard married Nancy Lee Fate on May 29, 1954; they were married for 12 years and lived in Emporia, Kansas and Topeka, Kansas. He later married Mary Mabry Wilcoxon on February 15, 1979 in Houston, Texas and they remained a loving couple until her passing on November 26, 2010.
Richard worked various jobs in both Emporia and Topeka including real estate agent and salesman. After moving to Houston, Texas he worked at his brother George's appliance store, Oak Forest Appliance, as a salesman. After retiring, he spent his golden years repairing homes and reselling them.
He was the last survivor of eight children of George and Letha. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Letha Flott, his five brothers George (Imogene) Flott Jr, Robert (Joyce) Flott, Donald (Beverly) Flott, Lester Flott and Jimmy Flott and two sisters Margaret (Bill) Draskovich and Helen (Marion) Burris.
Those left to honor his memory are his children Paula Marsalia and her husband James, Richard (Rick) Flott and his wife Kim, Larry Flott and his wife Johanna, Karla Alcabes and her husband Phil; grandsons Adam Flott, Henry Flott, Daniel Alcabes; granddaughters, Sarah (Flott) Vigil and her husband Chris, Lura (Flott) Colson and her husband Josh, Angela Marsalia, Rachel Marsalia, Olivia Alcabes, along with many nieces, nephews, step-children, step-grandchildren and friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be at the American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas at 1 PM with the memorial service following at 2 PM on Saturday, June 9, 2018. A reception will follow at 3 PM. The burial will be at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas on Monday, June 11, 2018, at 9:30 AM. Flowers may be sent to the aforementioned funeral home.
