

Richard Pena Jr., age 68, died at St. Catherine’s Methodist Hospital after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was born on February 1, 1948 in Edna, Texas to Adela Santellana Pena and Richard Pena Sr.
Richard was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He proudly served with India Company 3rd Battalion 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. While in Vietnam, he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart, Combat Action Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, and Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars.
Richard is survived by his children; Kimberly Thomson, Nerrisa Pena, Jerry Pena, Amanda Medlin, and Lisa Maxwell, Evelyn Polk, and Rudy Lopez, 14 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, Siblings; Tony Pena, Mario Pena, Sylvia Moody, John Pena, and David Pena. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, his son Jeremiah Lopez Pena, siblings; Lucila Pena Hernandez, Roy Pena, and Gloria Mungia.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services to celebrate his life and honor his service will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. Burial will follow services at the VA National Cemetery.
