

Richard was born on July 20, 1936, in Houston, Texas, to Theron and Mattie Lee Shoup. He was raised in Houston, a city that remained home to him throughout his life.
He attended Stephen F. Austin University, where he earned an engineering degree, beginning a long and accomplished professional career at Houston Lighting and Power.
After retirement, Richard remained active in his community and devoted his time to volunteering with Citizens for Animal Protection, reflecting his compassion and love for animals. He was also a faithful member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, where his faith was an important part of his life.
Richard is survived by his former wife and caregiver, Grace M. Shoup of Houston, Texas; his daughter Gwen Banks Shoup of St. Louis, Missouri; and his son Stephen Shoup of Cedar Park, Texas. He was a proud grandfather to Kristen Sommerville and Blake Sommerville of St. Louis, Missouri; Nicole Shoup and Joshua Shoup of Austin, Texas; and Ellie Shoup and Sawyer Shoup of Cedar Park, Texas. He was also blessed with two great grandchildren, Sophia Sommerville and Zeke Sommerville of St. Louis, Missouri.
Richard was preceded in death by his son, Richard Lee Shoup Jr., who passed away in 2005.
Interment will take place at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
