Robert was born in Pensacola, Florida on October 24th, 1959, to his parents Robert Lewis Bohannon Sr and Betty Lou Bohannon. At the age of 20, he left Florida to pursue a career opportunity In Houston, Texas. There he would discover a treasure he never set out to find – his loving wife, Manuela who is affectionately known by her nickname, Mela. God blessed them with four children and seven grandchildren.
Robert passed on to his children the meaning of a strong work ethic by taking them along on to work with him on many occasions and instilling in them the value of earning success with hard work and integrity. His greatest legacy is being a model of what a father is to his children by nurturing them, cheering them on at their baseball and softball games, attending school events, and giving guidance when he became a grandfather to their children.
As a lover of music, movies, sports, and adventure, Robert was a man who treasured experiences. He shared his interests with his family and frequently treated them to concerts, Astros games, dinners at Luby’s, and many weekends at the theatre. To be near Robert, was to be near so many experiences that are now cherished as lasting memories.
Although many encountered his quest for entertainment, only those closest to him had the blessing of knowing the wise, gentle, and reserved side of his personality. His loving wife describes him as a gentle giant – a man with a mighty physical appearance which contained the gentlest of hearts. A closer glimpse of him revealed a soft smile and kind eyes which together captured his love for those dearest to him.
Robert will best be remembered by his love for God and his strong family values which guided his journey as a dedicated husband, a hands-on dad, and a great friend. No matter what came his way, Robert enjoyed life until the end and always had a smile to give.
The following verse embodies the journey of the life that Robert graciously lived –
In 2 Timothy 4:7-8 the Bible says:
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”
