Born July 9, 1920 in The Bronx, New York to parents James and Elizabeth McLean, who had settled in New York City just ten years prior from County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. Anne enjoyed her youth and young career during difficult years. She enjoyed many summer days around the shore with 8 beloved brothers and sisters; she taught ballroom dancing for years during the war years and the big band era.
In the 1950s, she helped manage the Vermont ski lodge her mother owned as a family operation. Ahead of her times in many ways, Anne came to Houston in 1966 where her professional career as executive secretary spanned 3 decades with Austral Oil Company and Bayly, Martin & Fay, Inc.
Anne’s desire to contribute to her community sparked her enthusiasm volunteering with the Houston Youth Symphony, Post Oak YMCA, Casa de Esperanza, and many activities in St Michael’s Catholic Parish. Upon retiring she undertook The Teresian Fifth Dimension’s ministry to residents of the Magnificat Houses Inc, and continued her participation at St Michael’s. She enjoyed activities of St Michael’s Social Seniors.
Always self-reliant, Anne had a zest for life, enjoying swimming, golf, music and dance. She sought adventure traveling abroad, and loved her many friends.
Rose Anne lived and thrived in the Hampton’s at Tanglewood Retirement Community for the last three years, continuing to assist with weekly Catholic services.
Being nearly the middle child between 3 sisters and 4 brothers, she is survived by brother Robert McLean and wife Joan of the Woodlands, Texas, her nephew Richard McLean and wife Susan of Spring Texas and two children, plus several nieces and nephews from Wisconsin to Maryland and New England.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Michael’s Church, 1801 Sage Rd, Houston, on January 16 at 2pm. Anne will be buried near her mother and sister at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. In lieu of flowers, Anne suggested memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
