Rush Fitzpatrick Evans Jr., 83, of Houston, TX passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. On September 6, 2025 at the Church of Christ in Jersey Village (8810 Jones Road; Houston, TX 77065) there will be Visitation at 9:00 AM and Funeral Service at 10:00 AM followed by Graveside service at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home and Cemetery (12800 Westheimer Road; Houston, TX 77077) at 1:00 PM.
Rush was born in Houston, TX on May 9, 1942 to Rush F. Evans and Lillian (Schlickeisen) Evans. Shortly before he started High School the family moved to Groveton, TX where he lived, completing High School as valedictorian in 1960. He then received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy but left there and joined the Army where he became an M60 Tank commander and reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. After an honorable discharge he completed his education and earned a BBA from the University of Houston in August of 1970. He began his career as a data processing manager for Dresser Industries and worked there a number of years before moving into real estate management after earning his real estate broker’s license. Later, he became a warehouse manager in the air tools industry and then became a store manager at various locations for Blockbuster Video where he was recognized numerous times for being an excellent manager until his retirement in 2010.
Rush was baptized in 2018 by Doug McCullough and became a faithful member of the Jersey Village Church of Christ.
Rush and Mary Lee married in April of 1973 and they were married over fifty years. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Mary Lee; son and daughter-in-law Rush F. Evans III and Jessica Evans, son John J. Vossler III; grandchildren Carlin Rush Evans, Callie Evans, Kyle Vossler, Emily Vossler, Colton Caffey and wife Tiffany Caffey; great granddaughter Blair Caffey; sister Patricia Reynolds and her husband John Reynolds; brother Joe Scott Evans and his wife Margie Evans and many nieces and nephews.
