Sallie Wynne Mansell entered heaven peacefully on Saturday, the 2nd of November 2024 at home surrounded by her family after a courageous three and a half year battle with cancer. She was a native Houstonian.
Sallie was born on the 4th of September 1958 to Dorothy Seay Wynne and Thomas Burton Wynne. She graduated as a lifer from The Kinkaid School in 1976 and progressed to The University of Texas at Austin where she received a BS in Elementary Education in 1980. At UT, Sallie was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta where she served as the state rush captain her senior year and made many lifelong friends.
In 1983, she met the love of her life Bob Mansell and they married on January 14, 1984. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this year. Sallie and Bob were blessed with their first daughter, Amanda, in 1985 and a second daughter, Mollie, in 1987. Sallie and Bob were always together.
Sallie was a lifelong member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church; a member of Kappa Alpha Theta alumnae chapter; River Oaks Garden Club and Houston Country Club. It was her honor to serve as President of the Theta Alumnae chapter in 2010-11. Sallie cherished her association with River Oaks Garden Club where she made many more friends. Sadly, she was one week away from taking over as President of River Oaks Garden Club in May 2021 when she received her cancer diagnosis and had to step away from a job she had so looked forward to.
In her time at home, Sallie took on the challenging task of needlepointing Christmas stockings for her three grandchildren because she wanted to leave something special behind for each of them to remember their “Honey” by.
Sallie loved garden club events, lunch out with her mother, sisters and friends and Colorado in the summertime with her family. Other favorite activities were reading, playing mahjong, attending Bible studies and decorating for the holidays.
An excellent conversationalist, Sallie was so much fun to visit with and sometimes never stopped to take a breath when she was telling a story or got excited about a passionate topic. She was always selfless, putting others first and was genuinely interested in everyone else’s daily lives. Sallie leaves behind a wonderful group of dear friends who have meant the world to her.
Above all, Sallie’s greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother and grandmother. She was always there for her two adoring daughters and loved nothing more than spending time with her three precious grandchildren.
Sallie is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Burton Wynne. She is survived by her loving and caring husband of 40 years, Robert Dudley Mansell; daughter Amanda Mansell Morrow and husband Nick; daughter Mollie Wynne Mansell; grandchildren Robbie, Tommy and Bridget Morrow; her mother Dorothy Seay Wynne; her brother Tom Wynne, brother Dick Wynne and wife Giggy, sister Emily Wynne Bolin and husband Don, sister Laura Wynne Cale and husband Mike; brother-in-law Quinton Mansell and wife Joy; and her great-aunt Carolyn Wynne Burks.
She also leaves behind nephews and nieces: Richard Wynne, Amy Wynne Galloway, Allison Bolin Gould, Abby Bolin Smith, Ellie Bolin, Laura Lee Cale, Jenny Cale, Quint Mansell, Matthew Mansell and Bonnie Mansell.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 12th of November in the sanctuary of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston where Dr. Tom Pace, Senior Pastor, is to officiate.
