Sam Sarao, 92, passed away on June 5, 2016 at West Houston Medical Center after a short illness. He was born September 4, 1923 in Houston, Texas. He was a World War II veteran and served in the United States Navy in the Pacific as an Electrician Mate Third Class aboard the USS Breton from June 6, 1941 to May 9, 1945.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Janie (Jetto) Sarao and his sisters, Annie Kooi and Mary Moore.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Mavis Sarao, his son James Sarao, Sr. and his wife, Martha; his daughter, Kathryn Peoples and her husband, Charlie Peoples, Jr.; grandson Charlie Peoples, III and wife, Jaime; grandson Paul Peoples; grandson James Sarao, Jr. and wife, Diana; granddaughter Melissa Lee and husband, Wesley. He is also survived by six great- grandchildren: Savannah Gless and Kenna Peoples, Michael and Shane Sarao, Wesley, Jr. and Jessica Lee.
Services are pending at the Houston National Cemetery.
