Sam Thai was born into a Chinese family in Saigon, Vietnam on January 28, 1948 to father Bich Thai and mother Ly Banh. He had three brothers and four sisters. In 1979 Sam immigrated with his family to the United States, and eventually settled in Houston, Texas. He worked in the food service industry. Sam is survived by wife Helen, son David, daughter Dao, and son-in-law Matthew. He has a granddaughter Amy Kate whom he loved dearly. Sam was a loving father, loyal husband, considerate brother, and a kind and generous friend. Above all else, Sam valued his family the most.
