He was born in Houston, Texas on August 5th, 1948, to parents Raymond Doyle Borden and Lorine Eason Borden. Sammy graduated from Sam Houston High School where he met his wife of 56 years, Sue Borden, and married on June 9th, 1969.
Sammy received a Masters Electrical License, working as an electrician for 25 years until he pursued his passion for golf. During his golf career, he owned a driving range and golf course in the Houston area, while traveling and competing in professional events. He had the privilege of playing in several professional senior tour events across the world. Among his many accomplishments in golf, it must be noted that he had 7 hole-in-ones. Sammy was a life member of the PGA of America.
Most of all, Sammy loved Jesus, his family, and people. He spent his younger days running through the bayous of Houston with cousins and friends and would invite everyone over for his mom’s home cooking. Sammy went on many surfing adventures, ski trips, church gatherings and was an avid fisherman. He was an active member of Spring Baptist Church.
He was known by his daughter and grandchildren as their #1 fan, always attending everything they were involved in. Sammy loved to laugh and have a good time, always starting games, karaoke, dancing, or any other noisy activity. He lived a life one would aspire to live as he was generous, selfless, hard-working, and a caretaker to many.
Sammy is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Doyle Borden and Lorine Eason Borden, and his brothers, Raymond Borden and William Louis Stubbs.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Borden; sister, Carolyn Lively; sister-in-law, JoAnn Stubbs; daughter and son-in-law, Kristen and Jay Jenkins; grandchildren, Jaycee, Kaden, and Kenslee Jenkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
