

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Samuel Harvey Rendon, who left us on December 21, 2024. Born on June 14, 1981, in McAllen, Texas, Sam was a devoted father, husband, son, brother, and a remarkable professional whose life was marked by love, dedication, and resilience.
Sam was a proud father to Callan Rendon, and a loving husband to Rachel Stansel. He was the cherished son of Humberto “Harvey” Rendon of McAllen, Texas, and Eileen Ramsaran of Miami, Florida, and the beloved stepson of Alma Rendon. He also leaves behind his stepbrother, Humberto Rendon, Jr.
A patriot and a dedicated public servant, Sam served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps from 2000 to 2004. His commitment to his country continued through his esteemed career at the United States Geological Survey (USGS), where he began working as a Hydrologist in 2011 and rose to the position of Supervisory Physical Scientist. His contributions to the field of hydrology were invaluable and left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the scientific community.
Sam's academic achievements were notable. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and furthered his expertise with a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Oklahoma. His intelligence and passion for his field were evident in all his endeavors.
Despite the many challenges he faced throughout his life, Sam's soft heart and loving nature shone through. He touched the lives of all who knew him with his kindness, intelligence, and unwavering support.
Samuel Harvey Rendon will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, strength, and dedication will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Sam's life on January 10, 2025 at the Houston National Cemetery at 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas, 77038. Please arrive at the Cemetery between 10:00 and 10:15 AM in Lane 2. Please remain in your vehicle until a Cemetery Representative guides us to the designated pavilion. Following the service, please make your way back to your vehicle and proceed to the reception to be held from 11 AM to 1 PM at the American Heritage Funeral Home at 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas, 77038.
