

Sarah Works Day Haynes entered this life on the 9th of June 1916, and peacefully passed away on the 18th of April 2013. She was the only child of James D. and Sarah Singer Works of Sherman, Texas. After graduating from Stephen F. Austin College, she taught school in Kilgore, Texas, where she met and married Russell Day. Three daughters completed this happy family. Russell Day passed away in 1963. Sarah later met and married Ben Haynes, a widower with a son and daughter. They were happily married until Ben Haynes passed away in 1982.
Sarah had a blessed and beautiful life. She lived life to the fullest and appreciated every moment. Her professional life was teaching school (HISD, 20 years). Sarah loved volunteering for The Blue Bird Circle (member since 1982). Traveling, gardening, sewing, knitting and other art forms were a pleasure for her and others.
Sarah is survived by her daughters, Sally Day Boykin, Marsha Day Peavy and husband Lanny, and Katherine Day Rauch and husband Leonard; Ben Haynes' son, David Haynes and wife Michael; grandchildren, Brett Boykin, Andrea Day-Boykin and husband Patrick, Meredith Rogers, Greg Peavy and wife Sally, Jason Peavy and wife Haley, Victoria Haynes, Charlene Conrad McCartney, Gray Conrad; great grandchildren, Rowan and Lily Gannon, Demi and Kara Rogers, Ri Boykin, Scott, Bradley and Kaitlyn Peavy. She is preceded in death by Ben’s daughter, Judy Haynes Boardman.
Sarah's sparkling and loving personality will forever enrich the lives of her family and friends.
The family will receive friends during a visitation from eleven o’clock in the morning until one o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 22nd of April, at Bethany United Methodist Church, 3511 Linkwood Drive in Houston, where the funeral service is to commence at one o’clock in the afternoon, with Rev. Daniel Jones, Pastor, officiating.
The interment is to follow, via an escorted cortege, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests, with gratitude, that contributions in Sarah’s name be directed to The Blue Bird Circle, 615 West Alabama St., Houston, TX, 77006; Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX, 77030; or to the charity of one’s choice.
