Sebastian "Johnichan" Lukose Kumbanattel

Sebastian Kumbanattel Lukose (Johnichan) was born in Njeezhoor, Kottayam to Lukose Kumbanattel and Mary Lukose from Thuruthipallil family on June 27, 1958. He was the 5th born amongst the 7 children that Lukose and Mary had, oldest being Babu Kumbanattel followed by George Kumbanattel (thankachan), Pushpa Mathew, Ponnamma John, late Anthony Kumbanattel, and Agnes Oommen (Mickol) in that order.

Johnichan came to the United States in the early 90’s to start a new life. He went back to India in 1992 to marry Jissy Mathew and a few years later Jissy also moved to Houston, TX to join Johnichan where they started a new life together. In 1998, Johnichan and Jissy had their first child, Joel Sebastian. Juliet Sebastian, Joel’s younger sister, joined them in 2002.

Over the last 30 years, Johnichan held various jobs, his latest being a lifelong dream of owning his own business. He was a very disciplined and hardworking man with strict moral and religious values, and a very generous heart. His selfless service to the community by way of helping them during family events earned him great respect among his peers. He truly enjoyed giving what he has, to others than receiving anything from others. He had a lot of faith in Jesus and he never failed to say a pray in every walk of his life. He was a regular attendee at daily and Sunday masses at Syro-Malabar church as well as the Holy Family Catholic church both of which were a stone’s throw away from his residence.

God heard his prayers and blessed him abundantly throughout his life. Johnichan passed away peacefully at MD Anderson in the presence of his wife, his children and close family; He had made all the spiritual and other end-of-life preparations in advance knowing that his journey to the next life was imminent. Oh Lord, give him eternal rest for he has touched the hearts of many.
