Shanon Schreiber, 52, of Houston, Texas, went into the arms of Jesus Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Shanon was born to Cathy (Younger) Schreiber and David Schreiber. Shanon was born with Down Syndrome and in 1973 the life expectancy was age 16. But he proved them all wrong! Shanon knew he was Down Syndrome but didn't consider himself different or handicapped. He enjoyed helping others and once he learned something, he took pride in his achievement.
Shanon enjoyed Special Olympics and was involved in Track and field, bowling, basketball, softball, and bocce. He even got selected twice to attend National games in lowa and New Jersey to play bocce. He was in the Special Olympics from age 8 until COVID in 2020
Shanon was a social butterfly who never met a stranger and everyone he met he was ready to hug. He loved having his picture taken with firefighters, police officers, nurses, waiters and waitresses. Shanon exuded love to all. He was always playing tricks on people and called himself a Ladies Man.
Shanon had one special girlfriend, Nicole Niekamp, who he proposed to, and they always dreamed of getting married. Unfortunately, Nicole passed back when the swine flu was new and they didn't know a treatment. He is with her now. Since then, every day Shanon told everyone that he was getting married on his birthday.
Shanon enjoyed going on trips, especially to see family. Shanon likes fishing, going to baseball and football games. He loved the Astros, Altuve was his favorite. Every year he wanted a new Astro shirt with his age on the back. Whoever had that number was his favorite now.
Shanon loved Jesus and the light of Jesus shown through him always. Shanon loved his church and his church family and they loved him.
Shanon is preceded in death by his father, David. Shanon is survived by his mother, Cathy Stepfather, Adrian Smith, Stepbrother, Ryan Smith, his sister from another mother, Kara Johnson, his Aunt Darnell Schreiber, Uncle Scott Younger wife Kelly, Richard Younger and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins,
Shanon was a blessing to all, and we can only thank God for everyday we got the spend with him this side of heaven. Because of the promise of our Lord and Savior, Jesus, we will see him again.
